Description: A membrane permeable inhibitor for Thiol Protease (Cathepsin B/H/L, Calpain). It inhibits degradation of plasma membrane proteins in endosomes and prevents both calpain upregulation and apoptosis. Very recently it was shown, that it reduces brain beta-amyloid (> 92%) and improves memory deficits in Alzheimer's disease (AD) animal models by inhibiting cathepsin B, but not BACE1, beta-secretase activity.
